Super Borovets Project

Put simply, this is the most impressive ski development in Bulgaria, if not the whole of the region.

With investment of over €500 million the project aims to build on the success of the existing resort of Borovets, expanding the pistes from 50km to over 150km and using the higher areas of the mountains so it really will be an ‘all year round’ resort.

Recognising the need to build accommodation to suit everyone’s pockets, there will be various regions of the development, with facilities, location and property prices to ensure that property investors and tourists alike will have great choice in where they buy, and at what budget.

The resort will, in fact, be split into three zones which will be linked and the plan is for the development to be finished by 2012, in order to apply for Olympic status for 2014.

Ecological and environmental concerns have been paramount in the development also, so that the mountains and forests which surround the area will not be harmed, nor will the wildlife that inhabits the area.

As well as skiing, visitors will be able to take in the local countryside with walking, horse-riding and mountain-biking trails all planned. In fact, the nature and habitat surrounding Super Borovets is widely seen as one of the major attractions of the resort.

The resort will also be very easily accessible, being only 50 minutes drive from the international airport and only 50 km from Sofia. There will be gondolas and ski lifts to all of the slopes and you will actually be able to ski right back down into Samokov, the town at the heart of the development.

The effect on the local economy will be huge. At the moment the economy is very seasonal, with employment and income limited to the current ski season. Super Borovets will help even this out, giving all round employment opportunities for local workers.
